Woods and Peaks of Mount Faito

The Faito massif is considered the giant of the Lattari Mountains.

The first part of the itinerary winds on comfortable paths in the shade of beech trees, among which the centuries-old beech trees over four hundred years old stand out, with majestic foliage and a circumference greater than 6 meters. The centuries-old beech trees of Faito are the living witnesses of the now extinct snow industry.

In fact, in the shadow of these beech trees there are the “neviere”, large pits once used to accumulate and store the snow then used in the summer time as ice for food storage.

Once through the wood you reach a panoramic point, where the ascent to the peaks begins: the Croce della Conocchia on the southern side and Monte San Michele or Molare, so called for its molar shape, and the highest point of the Lattari Mountains with its 1,444 meters above sea level. The view sweeps 360 degrees from mount Vesuvius, to the Nocerino-Sarnese flat land, the Sorrento peninsula, the Amalfi coast and the bay of Naples with the islands.
