The Prince Mountain and the Forest of the Dead

A fascinating circular route starting from the Hills of San Pietro in Piano di Sorrento, once the site of an abbey of monks and converted into a castle at the end of the XIX century by the Prince of Summonte Eduardo Colonna.

We will reach the top of Mount Vico Alvano (642 meters above sea level) where a large clearly visible cross has been placed, and which offers spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast.

Continue to the Forest of the Dead of Casa Nocillo, where a tombstone reminds us that the Augustinian monks used to burn and bury the victims of the plague here, hence the name Tomb of the Plague victims. We will then cross the chestnut wood, along the Lavinola valley, which with its 4 km is the longest of the valleys of the Sorrento peninsula and which represents the natural border between the municipalities of Piano di Sorrento and Meta.
